 Why do a group of lionesses , which could easily overtake the male , give in , and allow him to eat his fill first ?
Well here's why .
The lionesses want the male to be fit and energetically ready for the possible takeover by another male .
If another male takes the pride , he will kill all of the pups , not one or two but all of them , barring ones old enough to run away .
The lionesses don't want that to happen , so the male is well taken care of .
He is basically a sperm donor , with pizzas .
